Influencers and Us - Day 9 - Discernment

If some is good - more is better?!?

In a world that just can’t get enough of fear, Dr. Fauci has recently come out with a new recommendation - wear two masks - saying it’s common sense. After all, if one is good, more is better. Of course, why didn’t we think of that from the beginning, hundreds of thousands of lives could have been saved if we had just followed the science.

Maybe we failed to deliver this message when HPV (human papillomavirus) got out of control with our sexually transmitted disease culture - if you’re going to have multiple partners, wear two condoms at a time, per partner! Why didn’t we do a better job of explaining this in health or teen sexuality class - the CDC’s website now specifies that HPV is so out of control that everyone in America will eventually have some strain of it, but don’t worry about COVID, we now have the two mask answer - in retrospect, maybe the whole AIDS epidemic could have been avoided as well.

Let’s take “the science” further, because I’m SURE there must be groundbreaking research to support this. It’d be like sliding on two sets of underwear to prevent farts from escaping - why didn’t we learn that one in health class - that would have been extremely practical.

I almost was looking forward to high school basketball season. Then I was told that, because of “the science”, athletes would have to wear masks while they played and practiced and could only sip bottled water through a straw that could be carefully consumed by slipping it behind the mask; if you removed the mask at any time during practice it was 14 days quarantine.

Do athletes wear those masks in the shower room or locker room, after practice while they’re riding home together? After all, the infection rate for ages 1-20 is a massive 0.003% Teens have a greater chance of getting or being involved in...

  1. Heart Disease (1 in 6) 0.166%

  2. Cancer (1 in 7) 0.142%

  3. Chronic Lower Respiratory Disease (1 in 27) 0.037%

  4. Suicide (1 in 88) 0.011%

  5. Opioid Overdose (1 in 96) 0.010%

  6. Motor Vehicle Crash (1 in 103) 0.009%

… than a teen does of catching and spreading COVID.

Sad reality - after accidents, suicide is now the number one killer of teens, but that’s an uncomfortable topic and society has not learned how to threaten teens from commiting such a devastiting act of deperation. Which certainly has been augmented by this highly infectious virus. Cancel culture has only exacerbated this trend - no sports, no activity, no life.

What is the greater tragedy? We are impressing a lie on a generation of kids that will scar their brains for life or for their shortened lives. Nothing like panic to suppress society and leave a lasting imprint. Nothing like history to reveal truth, mistakes and even disceptions propagated by those in power.

Is there a faith point to this Jon, or just a rant?

Here’s one - let’s make sense of the eternal alongside of and intertwined with everyday life.

If the law through Moses was good, more is better.

Nope - read 2 Corinthians 3. Paul compares the law to the glory of receiving the Spirit.

Scripture gives us a clear picture of freedom in Christ - read Galatians 5.

It shows us how to live life unburdened by the insanity of society.

According to the Centers for Disease Control

COVID survival rate numbers WITHOUT TREATMENT are these:

1-20 (99.997%)

21-49 )99.98%)

50-69 (99.5%)

Over 70 - (95%)

Early treatment even improves those numbers, however, obviously, and even statistically many people have an increased probability of dying in this period of their life (70 and over - check US statistics on mortality rates) because they are frail - like nursing home patients or are diabetic, dealing with heart conditions, or otherwise immunocompromised. Age and being health compromised is not a good situation to be in.

What about the “vaccine?” Should there be any discussion? Is there a different narrative than what is on television news?

It’s important to study, discern, and decide what is best for you and your family.

Right now there are concerns about not having enough vaccines soon enough or of only getting a partial dose (1 of 2) and risking no science to suggest that it works.

Perhaps stocking up on extra masks or... underwear is the best option for your age group.

Perhaps the experimental treatments now proposed are your or my best choice, or perhaps not if you are concerned about the lack of studies identifying the impact on fertility.

Does one believe the headlines, read research, follow non-traditional advocates of alternative paths?

Pray and I believe that will be revealed to you. John 14:15-17 and John 16:13-15

“Proverbs 25:2 “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”

Amos 3:7 “Surely the Lord GOD does nothing Unless He reveals His secret counsel To His servants the prophets.”

1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (NIV) “However, as it is written:“What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”—the things God has prepared for those who love him— these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.”

Ephesians 1:9 (NIV) “He made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ,”

Proverbs 4:18 “The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day.”

“We can see from these scriptures that God does want us to know His will. He wants us to know the way. He wants us to know how to get where we need to be. How do we find out these hidden things? We ask Him.” The Book of John prompts us over and over again in Jesus words, “

“The best time to pray is at night before you go to bed. During this process God will speak to you when your mind is calm and your spirit is at rest. So you want to get in bed and meditate on this scripture and then pray this prayer. Be assured that you will have dreams, see visions or God Himself will talk to you and let you know.” SOURCE

Jeremiah 33:3 (NKJV) ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV) ‘Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

Jeremiah 33:3 (MSG) ‘Call to me and I will answer you. I’ll tell you marvelous and wondrous things that you could never figure out on your own.’

Father God, I come to you in the name of Jesus and ask that you reveal to me things I am struggling to understand. Things like: ____________, ____________, _____________. Please reveal to me if the enemy has set up obstacles to stop me from receiving this.

Let your wisdom spoken of in 1 Corinthians speak clearly to me through your Spirit. Make it clear to me what is holding this back. Make my path shine as bright as the morning sun. Your word says that I should call to you and you would show me great and mighty things which I do not know.

I’m calling out to You now God, and I am asking for divine revelation. I trust You and I trust Your word. I know that you are going to give me clarity in these areas of my life:

Where am I in this process Lord? What is my next step? What do I need to do to move this forward? How do I continue to rest in your timing?

Thank you for Your promises to me and Your faithfulness in my life. I know my entire life is in Your hands, and I know You have plans for good; I trust you - do with my life as you choose. In Jesus Name, Amen.
