But God... There must be a reason

There must be a reason.

I’m pretty sure we all land on this thought at some point in our lives.

Jenny and I greet the morning differently.

Before the sun rises, she and Pete, our dog,  are out the door to her favorite prayer spot. As the sun rises, she is lost in thought and intimate conversation with her Holy Father in Heaven - sometimes in pain, sometimes in search of answers, always in praise and thanksgiving.

I, on the other hand, might not even open my eyes before I start praying.

“Thank you for another day; here’s what’s on my heart.” I turn over my doubts and fears, lift up my family and friends and those who have criss crossed our week. It’s not until after those moments that I do the comfy rollout, into sweats, so I can meet Jenny in the kitchen to compare thoughts, grab my cup of coffee, my bagel and enjoy the sunlight spilling through the front bay window.

With the election on our minds and all the possible fallout and controversy extending for weeks on end... add that so many people’s lives have been turned on end through tragedies and disappointments, she shared her morning meditation with this question, “What’s God’s purpose?” I asked if I could write about this and share it with you?

Because ultimately, God’s goals are never blocked.

He will be glorified - His plans will be accomplished!

Yet, from our perspective, how many times have we asked ourselves, “How can this be good?”

So even as churches were shut down and riots engulfed the streets of our cities, Sean Feucht was leading worship outdoors, in those same cities, meeting people in their misery and anger and bringing people to Christ, surrounded by God’s people expressing His majesty. Would that have otherwise happened?

As a staff at In Christ Ministries, we have been drawn into, brought into and enriched by so many people’s lives all over the country that I doubt we would have experienced had it not been for the insanity of 2020.

Even in this election - let’s just say that God used President Trump only for four years to wake up America to defend the unborn, to deliver kids back into parents’ hands and move minority communities toward school choice to free them from ideological indoctrination, to affirm that our U.S. Constitution is more powerful than the mandates of local governors and elected officials, and to defend faith communities’ religious liberties in the public arena.

Either way, if he uses him for four years or eight or in another way...

Half of adult America (70 million people) just voted, raised their voice, with these hopes. Really think about this, though. By Whose Voice do you think these people have been impacted? There is a big difference between a messenger and a Deliverer.

Friends of ours gave us a little gift a few years ago, as we waded through more tests and more surgeries. It sits right on a windowsill above our bed. It reads: God’s got a plan and it’s all good!”

Another piece that hangs above our bedroom doorway greets us every day whether it is before dawn or as I roll out later: “The LORD will fight for you; you need only be still!” Exodus 14:14 I Need To Remember This Every Day! I really need to let my thoughts dwell right there.

In our own lives, recently, my daughter Mackenzie and her husband David went through a miscarriage. It was devastating at the time. And it was difficult, even for us, to know how to comfort and respond to their need in those moments. “But God…”

These are two of the most powerful words in scripture. They literally appear hundreds of times in various forms throughout the Bible. And, they appeared in Mackenzie and David’s lives, even as these words were basically spoken through Dr. Pimentel and other loving friends and family.

That which seemed so destructive, God used to touch the lives of many, many women. Because, when God called Mackenzie to share her grief and God’s provision through a video on The Breakthrough, one of our In Christ online ministries, women all over the country were released from their secret pain and all the lies that accompanied that pain, that they had carried in silence, in some cases, for decades.

God supplied His infinite love through a short little life - a heartbeat spoken for just a few weeks to deliver His message of hope and grace to others in need.

How can this be good?

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

It’s His purpose - He chooses to use our hurts and disappointments for His glory and to comfort His people, to establish their faith and bring them to knowing the fullness of His Son’s Life.

Listen… say them softly… then, with more confidence… then rest in them.

But God shows undeserving kindness to everyone [1Peter 5:10]

But God raised him from the dead [Act 13:30]

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. [1 Corinthians 1:27]

My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. [Psalm 76:26]

Where is our strength? Where is our confidence to be found? Where is our hope in any storm?

But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our wrongdoings, made us alive together with Christ. By grace you have been saved. [Ephesians 2:4-5]

And, it is In Him that we are safe. In Him, we are loved!

Do you hear it? Do you hear His Voice?
